Biodata Personil Exo - EXO (Hangul: 엑소) adalah boy band Korea Selatan-Cina yang dibentuk oleh S.M. Entertainment pada tahun 2011. Grup ini terdiri dari dua belas anggota yang terbagi menjadi dua sub-grup, EXO-K untuk Korea dan EXO-M untuk Mandarin, yang akan melakukan promosi secara bersamaan masing-masing di Korea Selatan dan Cina. Nama mereka diambil dari kata exoplanet, sebuah istilah untuk menyebut planet di luar Tata Surya. Singel debut mereka, "Mama", dirilis pada 8 April 2012, disusul oleh peluncuran album pertama Mama pada 9 April 2012. Dua belas anggota diperkenalkan secara perorangan melalui 23 video teaser yang dirilis dari bulan Desember 2011 sampai Februari 2012. Kai, Lu Han, Tao, dan Chen, empat anggota pertama yang diperkenalkan, tampil di depan publik untuk pertama kalinya dalam acara SBS Gayo Daejun pada 29 Desember 2011.

Singel pendahuluan mereka, "What Is Love", dirilis pada 30 Januari 2012 melalui iTunes dan berbagai situs musik online di Cina dan Korea Selatan. Pada 9 Maret, mereka merilis singel pendahuluan kedua, "History", yang ditulis dan diproduksi oleh Thomas Troelsen dan Remee. Kemudia EXO-K dan EXO-M merilis singel debut mereka, "Mama", pada 8 April, disusul oleh album mini Mama pada 9 April. EXO-K menggelar penampilan mereka di program televisi The Music Trend pada 8 April, sementara EXO-M tampil dalam 12th Yinyue Fengyun Bang Awards di Cina pada hari yang sama. Debut internasional pertama mereka di Thailand pada 26 Juli oleh EXO-M dan 27 Juli oleh EXO-K
